Riccall - Further Talks Planned for A19 Acces and Safety

Riccall Parish Councillors held a meeting with John Grogan MP at the Regen Centre, Riccall in November, to further discuss the access problems and safety concerns surrounding the southern junction into Riccall from the A19.

Having had the planned roundabout taken off the NYCC works list in 2007, the Parish Council was very disappointed, earlier this year, to learn that the southern Riccall junction was not prioritized in the A19 congestion and safety study. The Parish Council has written to Richard Flinton, Corporate Director at County Hall, to ask for further work at the junction to be given some serious consideration. Local people struggle to access the A19 from Riccall, particularly at peak times, and last year a petition of nearly 1000 local signatures was taken to County Hall, asking that the decision to remove the Riccall roundabout scheme was re-considered.

Riccall PC Chairman, Brian Keen, said “This junction has been the scene of a number of serious accidents and fatalities over the last few years. Riccall Parish Council understands that road safety and access schemes need to be prioritized but does not want to wait until the next fatality to get further action here. The roundabout remains on the current reserve list at NYCC but local residents are struggling to access this dangerous road right now. The Parish Council will continue to push for a suitable solution to this problem”.

John Grogan has agreed to set up a meeting between himself, Riccall Parish Council and North Yorkshire County Council in the New Year.

Update……..this meeting has now been scheduled for February 2009…..keep checking back for further details.
