Riccall Regen Picks up National Award

The BURA Charitable Trust (British Urban Regeneration Association) has named Riccall Regen Centre as a winner in it’s 2005 awards. These prestigious awards recognise exceptional, community inspired regeneration schemes that have enhanced the quality of life for local people by addressing local needs and, above all, that underpin long-term, sustainable change. The Awards, now in their eleventh year are sponsored by English Partnerships, the Government’s national regeneration agency.
This year’s winners from across the United Kingdom have overcome major challenges to touch the lives of local people through delivery of innovative environmental, educational, employment, health, and economic initiatives that exemplify a standard to which all those working in community regeneration must now aspire. These award winners offer best practice lessons in community regeneration that BURA and English Partnerships hope will be an inspiration to other communities and we justifiably celebrate their achievements.

The Winners are:

(Category A - Turnover less than £30,000pa)

Wirral Farmers Market – New Ferry, Merseyside

(Category B Turnover more than £30,000pa)

Chrysalis Youth & Community Project – Castleford, West Yorkshire
Riccall Regen 2000 – Riccall, York
Dene Valley Community Partnership – County Durham

Runner up

Ormlie Community Association – Thurso, Caithness

The Awards will be presented at a prestigious ceremony in central London on Tuesday 10 January 2005, followed by a lunch and learning session.

Trevor Beattie, Corporate Strategy Director, English Partnerships said:

“It has been another great year for these awards. The winners all have the true x-factor – brimming with new ideas and the drive to put them into practice. They demonstrate that local people know best how to bring about lasting and positive change to their communities. English Partnerships is proud to be associated with them through our continued sponsorship of the Community Regeneration Awards.”
