The long awaited Selby Bypass will open today.
It has taken three years and £44 million pounds to construct and will hopefully ease congestion in Selby.
Opening of the full stretch of road has been delayed due to a problem with the revolutionary swing bridge over the river Ouse. Now that this has been resolved, it is expected that congestion will be reduced by up to 40% in Selby Town Centre. Concerns however, have been raised about increased congestion along the A19 as more traffic will utilise the new road. Junctions in Riccall are already dangerous and difficult to navigate without further traffic on the A19. It is hoped that the planned junction improvements will reduce these concerns.
