Further Flood Work Planned for Riccall Ings |
The Environment Agency have given the go ahead for a study into modifications to the drainage of Riccall Ings. |
Riccall Ings is a major flood storage stage basin capable of storing approximately 7 Million tonnes of water on the River Ouse. The construction of a new outfall structure is proposed to reduce the time that floodwaters are left standing in the Ing. Riccall Ings remained underwater for approximately 9 weeks during the floods of November 2000. The new outfall will be located just upstraem of Angram Dyke Pumping Station. |
A preliminary design for the works suggests that five 1800mm diamter pipes will be required to meet the objective of reducing the depth of water in the Ings by 75% within three days under free discharge conditions. |
It is intended that the construction will start in Summer 2003 following a full consultation process. |
