Riccall Open Gardens 2008

This years Riccall Open Gardens, in aid of St Leonard's Hospice was held on Sunday 8th June. The weather was kind to us and we had 13 gardens open, 3 of which were opening for the first time. The gardens all having something quite different to offer. The regulars like Ted and Barbara Taylor, offer cream teas and refreshments. Ted said that it was one of the busiest years for serving refreshments. Neil Spilman (local artist) not only opened his garden but his studio too showing many of his paintings and there was an opportunity for children to make some gargoyles out of clay, ready for this years Riccall Carnival. Just around the corner from Neil was Billy Bills, whose garden has many old signs. The event ran for 4 hours and I am pleased to announce that we made a total of £1260.06p for St Leonard’s Hospice. Our thanks go to the gardeners and their friends that helped on the day. A great deal of hard work is involved in preparing for the day, which is very rewarding particularly when garden visitors enjoy looking around and voice their positive comments. Last but not least - "Thanks to the people of Riccall for your continued support" and to the friends and family that you bring with you.
