Public Meeting to Discuss Antisocial Behaviour

The public meeting, called by John Duggan, to discuss the recent antisocial behaviour issues, raised some interesting debate last night. The meeting held at the Regen Centre was chaired by Selby District Councillor and member of the North Yorkshire Police Authority, John Duggan. Selby MP John Grogan and the Inspector at Selby Police Station, David Hunt were also in attendance to address residents concerns.

During the meeting it was noted

that Riccall was not alone in facing these issues and many of the incidents reported were common throughout the villages and towns of the County and country. However this was no excuse and further action was promised to reduce the problems. A resident suggested that more people should walk around the village to discourage antisocial behaviour.

Selby MP John Grogan commented “We are talking about a small number of individuals who are known to the police and it should be possible to turn some of these people around and stop them becoming involved in a life of crime”

Several residents complained about not being able to contact the police when incidents occurred. It soon transpired that an old number was being used to contact the police and a new number should be used in future. The number is 01904 631321. In the event that this number is not answered, residents should use the national emergency number 999. The recently introduced Mayfair Security patrols were praised and residents can continue to use the freephone number 0800 7837537 to contact Mayfair.
