In light of the recent attempted terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow, please read the following Community Message from North Yorkshire Police.
Our utmost priority is to protect our communities who are living, working and visiting North Yorkshire and the City of York whether that be from terrorist attack, hate crime or any other criminal activity; and to reassure them that we take all incidents seriously.
We will achieve this through compassionate but professional approach that incorporates both a sensitive and meaningful engagement with our communities in the way that we are to deliver policing services in North Yorkshire and the City of York. Our staff recognise the impact that recent events in London and Glasgow can have on people and the heightened feelings of vulnerability these incidents can bring. With key partners, we are committed to ensuring that these do not have a disproportionate effect on the quality of life for all.
Additional police patrols have been mounted across North Yorkshire and the City of York to protect and to reassure all our communities.
Communities Defeat Terrorism Experience has shown us that it is our communities who defeat terrorism, through their vigilance. Any information received is valuable and will be treated sensitively and in confidence.
The attacks in London and Glasgow were against us all so we must continue to work together to bring those involved to justice and to prevent further attacks.
Hate Crime Those committing hate crime will be subject to the same robust police action as any other violent criminal.
Further Information North Yorkshire Police is not aware of any direct threat to anyone in North Yorkshire and the City of York, but none-the-less urges everyone to remain vigilant. If you see anything suspicious call the police immediately using the 999 Emergency Number.
