You may have noticed new signs up around the village in public areas advertising that it is a ‘No alcohol zone.’ Under section 13 of the ‘Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001’ the effect of making a ‘No Alcohol zone’ is to provide the local Police with the power to deal with anti-social drinking in the areas designated. Where the Police reasonably believe that a person is, has, or intends to drink alcohol in that place they can require that person to surrender any alcohol or alcohol containers other than that in sealed containers in that person’s possession. The zones have been a big success in Barlby and Brayton, where residents have reported a steep reduction in alcohol related nuisance behaviour. Any questions about the zones can be directed to the Clerk to the Council – Lindsey Ryan.
