Riccall Neighbourhood Watch held a public meeting on Wednesday, 27 April in the Methodist Chapel. The meeting was well attended, with almost 40 people present. It was opened by Gordon Neal, the Village Co-ordinator, who welcomed everyone and gave an interesting presentation on two meetings he had recently attended, a North Yorkshire Police conference at the Regen Centre in the village, and a Selby Community Safety Partnership event.
A new chairwoman (Anne Sked) and secretary (Lesley Imlach) were elected, and by the end of the evening eight new co-ordinators and five other assistants had volunteered to be involved in the scheme. Another resident has since offered to consider the position of treasurer.
The Police were represented by two Officers - PC Emma Bryson, and PCSO Rachel Thompson, who both gave a very informative presentation.
Training Manager Ron Amos, accompanied by Patrol Officer Tony Webster, spoke on behalf of Mayfair Security.
Councillor David Lindsay confirmed the Council’s continued support for the scheme, and went on to explain how Mayfair was recruited to assist with the security of the village and how it operates within Riccall.
There was time for a question and answer session, when villagers put questions to the guest speakers and aired their views about Police and Mayfair presence in the village and response to phone calls etc.
The evening was rounded off with tea and biscuits, and an opportunity to have an informal chat with guests and committee members. Feedback indicates that the event was considered a great success, being informative and sociable, and giving everyone the chance to have their say.
