Shadow Roads Minister Visits Riccall

In January 2008, Shadow roads minister, Robert Goodwill MP visited Riccall with conservative parliamentary candidate Nigel Adams, to assess local traffic problems. Riccall Parish Councillors Andrew Tibbett and Lily Wilson, along with Clerk to the Council Lindsey Ryan met with Mr Adams and Mr Goodwill onsite at the A19 southern junction, to talk through local issues. Access onto the A19 was considered as was the speed of the traffic passing Riccall on the A19.

Riccall Parish Council has requested a matrix flashing speed sign for outside the Recreation Ground, in order to ensure drivers are aware of their speed, as they enter Riccall from the A19 and drive straight past a recreational area. North Yorkshire County Council is resisting a matrix sign and is instead trialling an enhanced gateway into Riccall, which is red hatching. The Parish Council continues to push for permission to put up a matrix sign and has offered to fund the sign. Nigel Adams and Robert Goodwill MP agreed to support Riccall Parish Council as it lobbies to get a sign installed.

John Grogan MP also supports the matrix sign at this site.

The Parish Council continues to press North Yorkshire County Council for improved safety measures at the southern junction from Riccall onto the A19.
