Riccall Recreation Development Group heard this week that the ‘Changing Spaces – Community Spaces’ fund has agreed to grant nearly £24,000.00 towards Phase 4 of the development of Riccall Recreation Ground. The overall scheme will cost approximately £33,000. The new phase will include an enclosed pre-school age group play area and a ‘bird nest seat’ (a large swinging cradle), which will be sited outside of the enclosed area. Both the group and the Parish Council are absolutely thrilled with the funding granted by the ‘Changing Spaces – Community Spaces’ fund, meaning that phase four can now go ahead. These new facilities will ensure that the play equipment on Riccall Recreation Ground is accessible to all age groups of children and young people, from toddlers to teenagers. It is hoped to have the new equipment installed and the project complete before the school summer holidays this year. Phase 3, a skate park installed in 2007 has been very well received and is well used by young people from Riccall and surrounding areas. Phase four will now complete the development of Riccall Recreation Ground and ensure that our younger residents are not left out. The bird nest seat is available for use by all children but is particularly useful to those children with disabilities, who may find other play equipment restrictive. A launch event for the whole area is planned for later this year.
