Village Vandalism Total

Vandalism in the village, although caused by a minority, continues to cost the Council (and therefore you) money throughout the year.

In the last financial year, Riccall Parish Council has spent £122.75 on repairing vandalism. The total is not a true reflection of the real cost, as it would have been much higher, if not for the many voluntary hours of assistance given in clearing up damaged areas, repairing broken glass and fixing damaged seats and fixtures.

Recently the seat on the Pinfold (next to the Telephone kiosk) was vandalised and due to health and safety implications had to be completely removed. This will be replaced, hopefully during the summer, with a brand new seat as part of the renovation of this area.

The Parish Council have been and still are working with the Police and Neighbourhood Watch, to try and improve the situation.

Although this is an issue in nearly every village (and on the whole, Riccall is not as bad as some) it is completely unacceptable behaviour at any age.

If you see any act of vandalism in the village please phone the police in Selby immediately on 01757 702596. Their advice is that they need to get a call as the vandalism is happening.
